THE POPPIE PROJECT

Every day, thousands of children face trauma, neglect, and violence.

The Poppie Project is a call to action – a reminder of how fragile our children’s futures are, and how urgently they need our protection.

This Child Protection Week (29 May to 5 June), help us raise awareness, funds, and hope.

Why support the Poppie Project

When you wear a wristband or display a poppie, you’re not just showing support – you’re helping build a safer world for children.

Proceeds go directly to Badisa’s child protection programmes.

Your support enables us to:

  • Raise awareness during Child Protection Week

  • Provide psychosocial services to vulnerable children
  • Mobilise communities to stand against abuse

How can you get involved?

Whether you’re part of a school, business, church or community group –  there’s a way for you to make a difference.
  • Buy Poppie wristbands (R10 each) for your staff to wear on Friday, 30 May as a show of solidarity.

  • Host a Poppie Day at your school of business and encourage everyone to buy and wear a Poppie wristband.

  • Sponsor wristbands for a local school so that children from all backgrounds can participate in our Civvie Day.

  • Display our posters or pamphlets at your school, church or workplace to help spread awareness.

  • Post a photo or short message on your social media, showing that your business, school or church stands with our children and their future. @BadisaCharity and use the hashtags #ChildProtectionWeek2025 #PoppieProject

  • Purchase or donate a Poppie doll or other merchandise as a symbol of your commitment to care and community.

The story of the Poppie Project

Inspired by the quiet strength and vulnerability of fabric poppies, the Poppie Project was born to symbolise our call to protect South Africa’s children.

Each hand-sewn poppie doll tells a story – of a child’s resilience, of a community’s compassion, and of a shared belief that every child deserves safety, love, and dignity.
