FUTURECARE CONFERENCE

Collaborative Solutions for Elder Care

The world’s population is ageing rapidly. By 2050, the number of people aged 60 and over will more than double, from 1 billion in 2022 to 2.1 billion. In South Africa, the percentage of older persons will rise from 9.2% to 16%, translating to an increase from 5.2 million to 12 million. In the Western Cape, the older population will more than double to over 1.5 million.

This growth presents significant challenges for service providers. Financial support from the government is decreasing, and the economy is stagnant, making it hard for many older persons and their families to afford the necessary services.

A new generation of older people will have different needs, and as life expectancy increases, so does the demand for residential care and specialized services for conditions like dementia. Community and family-based services offer a viable alternative to residential care, but progress in adopting this model has been slow despite supportive legislation and policies.

We invite you to join us at the FutureCare Conference to discuss these pressing issues. Together, we will explore how to take responsibility for the escalating and changing needs of older persons over the next 30 years.

Join the conference.
