There is a well-known Willie Nelson song that begins:
“On the road again,
I just can’t wait to get on the road again…”
Over the past month, our CEO, Basie van Wyk, has certainly spent plenty of time on the road. Travelling hundreds of kilometres across the Western and Northern Cape, he has been meeting with both new and long-serving Governing Board members who generously volunteer their time, expertise and passion in service of Badisa’s mission.
These visits are about far more than governance. They provide opportunities to strengthen relationships, share our vision, clarify roles and responsibilities, and experience first-hand the remarkable work taking place across our network. Every programme, every volunteer and every staff member contribute to the unique tapestry that makes Badisa such a powerful force for social impact.
At the same time, HR Director Tia Albert and her team have been travelling extensively to train staff on new HR systems and processes. These visits reflect an important principle: meaningful support cannot happen only from a central office. To understand our communities, strengthen our programmes and support our people, we need to be present where the work happens.
As we continue our journey, Badisa is increasingly focused on becoming One Badisa, a unified organisation that combines local responsiveness with shared strength and purpose.

To support this vision, eight strategic focus areas have been identified:
- Building a more connected and system-enabled organisation
- Strengthening financial sustainability and growth
- Delivering consistent service excellence across programmes
- Developing workforce capacity and future leaders
- Expanding strategic partnerships and stakeholder collaboration
- Enhancing governance and accountability
- Growing a unified Badisa brand and integrated fundraising approach
- Driving innovation through community-centred solutions
Exciting initiatives are already underway, including greater digital integration, strengthened collaboration between programmes, a more unified brand presence and opportunities to leverage our collective scale for greater impact.
The road ahead is ambitious, but it is also full of opportunity. By working together as one organisation, we can strengthen our services, expand our reach and create even greater impact in the lives of the individuals, families and communities we serve.
And if the journey is about moving forward together, then our next stop is one you won’t want to miss.
