At Badisa, we believe that care can change the course of a life.
Sometimes care looks like a safe place for a child. Sometimes it looks like support for a family in crisis, dignity for an older person, protection for someone who has been neglected, guidance for a person on the road to recovery, or someone simply choosing to stand beside another when life becomes too heavy to carry alone.
Every day, across communities, Badisa sees how one act of care can become the beginning of hope. A meal shared. A hand offered. A phone call made. A donation given. A person noticed. A family supported. A life held together when everything feels as if it might fall apart.
This Mandela Day, on 18 July 2026, Badisa will launch the Called to Care -Wall of Care campaign: a call to staff, volunteers, partners, donors, congregations, businesses and supporters to help build something that can hold people up.
We are building a Wall of Care.
Not a wall that keeps people out, but a wall that holds people up.
Through this campaign, supporters are invited to buy a symbolic Brick of Hope. Each brick represents love in action. It represents dignity, protection, belonging, recovery and possibility. Together, these bricks will form a wall of support around the children, families, older persons, persons with disabilities, people in recovery and vulnerable communities Badisa serves every day.
The campaign is also sector-specific, giving supporters the opportunity to direct their contribution to an area of care close to their hearts. Whether someone feels called to support children and families, older persons, persons with disabilities, people affected by substance dependency, or another Badisa care sector, their brick can help strengthen the work being done in that specific space.
In this way, every donation becomes both personal and practical. It allows supporters to stand with the people and causes they feel most connected to, while still forming part of one shared Wall of Care.
The campaign will launch on Mandela Day and continue until the end of 2026, creating an opportunity for people across South Africa to keep answering the call to care long after 18 July has passed.
Mandela Day reminds us that meaningful change does not always begin with something big. Often, it begins with a simple act of kindness. It begins when ordinary people choose to do what they can, where they are, with what they have.
Across Badisa programmes and communities, people are already finding practical ways to make a difference. Some will give their time. Some will donate goods. Some will share their skills. Some will support a local initiative. Some will buy a symbolic brick. Each contribution matters, because each one helps strengthen the communities we serve.
The Called to Care – Wall of Care campaign is an invitation to become part of something bigger than a once-off moment. It is a reminder that when we build together, we create lasting support. When we care together, we help people stand again. When we give together, we help restore dignity, hope and belonging.
Every brick tells a story.
A story of someone who cared enough to act.
A story of a child who may feel safer.
A story of a family that may find support.
A story of an older person who may feel seen.
A story of a community made stronger through compassion.
This Mandela Day, Badisa invites you to answer the call.
Buy a symbolic Brick of Hope. Give your time. Share your skills. Support a programme. Choose a sector close to your heart. Stand with a community.
