Meaningful partnerships have the power to create lasting impact, especially during times of crisis. Following the severe storms that affected the Western Cape on 10 and 11 May 2026, Shoprite Holdings through its Checkers CSI division partnered with Badisa by contributing R32 000 towards programmes that were significantly impacted by the disaster.
This support will assist affected Badisa programmes in continuing essential services to vulnerable communities during the recovery period. More importantly, it reflects a shared commitment to responsive, community-centred care during times of increased social and economic pressure.
The partnership also marks the beginning of a promising long-term collaboration. Three Checkers stores in the Western Cape have been identified to partner with Badisa through the retailer’s surplus food donation programme. The initiative redistributes quality surplus food, still suitable for human consumption, to vetted organisations serving communities in need, rather than allowing it to go to waste.
For Badisa, this collaboration strengthens ongoing efforts to address food insecurity while promoting sustainability and responsible resource management. It is a practical example of how corporate and non-profit partnerships can work together to create systems of care that are both compassionate and sustainable.
