When a ball of wool and a crochet hook land in the right hands, it can turn into something truly special. For Marietjie Noble and her husband James, it’s their way of giving back.

Marietjie, known for her beautiful crochet work, makes stunning handbags, while James makes sure there’s always enough wool and hooks to keep her going. They’re part of the more than 2,600 volunteers who give their time, skills and love to Badisa.

“These two are real Durbanville heroes,” says a Badisa spokesperson. “They show how love can be lived out in a simple, practical way.”

Badisa is one of Africa’s biggest social welfare organisations, reaching more than a million people every year – from babies and families to persons with disabilities and older persons in their golden years. With over 3,500 social workers and professional staff nationwide, Badisa works daily to bring hope and support where it’s needed most.

Badisa also invites businesses to harness their employees’ skills and passion as part of volunteer initiatives that combine team-building with community service. It’s a way to not only improve people’s lives but also help make our country a better place.

We’ll soon start knitting for Kuumba, and if anyone would like to help with a pattern or donate wool and needles, we would really appreciate it.
