On 20 April 1988, Social Worker Francis Platt sent an urgent request to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) for assistance in starting a Custodial School by 6 May 1988. At that time, the daycare centre, established under the auspices of Porterville Diaconal Services by Probationary Student Social Worker in collaboration with some parents, lacked essential tools and resources.
Despite the financial constraints, the community rallied together, with various resources and members contributing funds. Recognising the need for a dedicated facility, Rev. Frans Burger and Mrs. Boegner decided to seek donations to build a new structure where each group could have its own classroom.
Their efforts bore fruit when they wrote a letter to South African Breweries (SAB), which responded with a generous donation that enabled the construction of the current building. The project was led by Mr. G.J.A. Josephus (Olede), who oversaw the construction of Tikkel Tokkel.
The new building was officially opened on 20 May 1995, by Mr. H. Fabe, the public relations officer of SAB, marked a significant milestone in the journey of Tikkel Tokkel Daycare Centre.
