Wellbi is an online platform utilised by non-profit organisations globally to manage and optimise data related to the children and adults they serve. This comprehensive tool captures beneficiary profiles, program-related data such as attendance registers, process notes, reports, and assessments, quantifying the wellbeing of those served.

By tracking over 140 different data points per beneficiary and displaying these in easily understood dashboards, Wellbi enables staff to understand program impact and allocate resources more efficiently based on data-driven decisions.

With its mobile app, Wellbi allows for real-time data capture and voice-recorded process notes, ensuring that data is securely stored through encryption and best practices in data protection. The system also features easy filtering, sorting, and exporting of beneficiary lists.

Wellbi employs various wellbeing assessments based on the internationally recognised Child Status Index (CSI) framework, which is standard in the OVC-care sphere. The platform covers eight domains: food and nutrition, shelter and care, protection, health, psychosocial, education and skills training, spirituality, and community.

In 2022, Badisa took a significant step forward by implementing the Wellbi system across its child protection and child and youth care programs. As with any major transition, the implementation has faced challenges and received mixed reactions. While some programs have enthusiastically embraced the new system and made significant progress, others have struggled with the shift from manual processes to an online platform. This transition is particularly challenging in environments with high staff turnover, limited resources, and time constraints.

We are immensely grateful for the practical support and assistance provided by Meyer Conradie and his team from Mosaic Community Development. Their help has been crucial in accelerating our progress.

We eagerly anticipate the full implementation of Wellbi and the realisation of its benefits. Embracing technology, including artificial intelligence, is essential for the future of service delivery. With Wellbi, we are well on our way to achieving more efficient, data-driven, and impactful care for our beneficiaries.

The need for social services in an online world
There are about 4.54 billion active users of information and technology in the world. One-third of the users are children. According to a recent UNICEF report, youth between 15 and 24 years are the most connected groups, with a 71% online presence. In South Africa, 86.3% of children have a social network account because they regard social networking on platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat and Instagram an important part of cultivating and sustaining interpersonal relationships. However, only one in three children has set their social networking profiles to private. Also, internet access has been recognised as one of the basic human rights in South Africa (HR Council, June 2016).
Social media has become ubiquitous and the preferred tool of interpersonal communication as well as educational, political and business information exchange. This creates a unique opportunity for Badisa to develop digital service rendering.
