Initially, food aid to families in need consisted of a R200 voucher for OK Grocer, with provisions made to assist 10 families per month. Since 2006, this aid has been managed through the Sakkie-vir-’n-Pakkie project, following thorough evaluations.

It works as follows: shopping bags are distributed during worship services at the Dutch Reformed church office and Badisa. Each bag contains a note requesting specific non-perishable food items. During the 2023/2024 financial year, 413 food parcels were distributed, amounting to R301,490 in total, with an average cost of R730 per parcel.

OK Grocer has provided a container within their store where items for this project can be donated. The United Church has also joined the initiative, distributing bags to their parishioners, who regularly deliver them to our office. Additionally, the Baptist congregation is expected to participate soon.

This collaborative effort ensures that essential food aid reaches families in need, making a significant difference in our community.
