Die Koffie Winkel began alongside the construction of 32 condominiums, now known as PlumRus North. Initially, the ground-level braai area wasn’t generating any income, prompting us to explore other options. The concept of a coffee shop quickly emerged as the dominant idea due to its potential for income generation and creating a vibrant community hub.
Die Koffie Winkel has since become a beloved space for reading the newspaper, residents chatting over a cup of coffee or tea, celebrating birthdays, hosting special visits, and engaging with the surrounding community. Its popularity soon led to an expanded menu, featuring breakfast options and coffee shop specialties like home-baked pies, cakes, potato chips, milkshakes, and more.
The coffee shop also caters to special functions and afternoon meals for residents when family and friends visit. We’ve extended our services with a takeaway menu, delivering homemade and home-baked goods directly to residents’ rooms or apartments. Remarkably, family and friends from countries like Australia can place orders online, and we ensure prompt delivery.
A primary goal was to involve the surrounding community. Initially, the coffee shop attracted only Medi-Clinic visitors. Today, various organisations and groups frequent Die Koffie Winkel, drawn by our high-quality products, fast service, reasonable prices, safe environment, and the added benefit of supporting elder care.
Operated by its dedicated staff, Die Koffie Winkel is integral to PlumRus’s fundraising efforts. Its turnover has impressively increased from R40,000 to R135,000, with a net profit exceeding R15,000 per month.
