Mrs. Belindia Petersen, a social worker at the former Diaconal Services, recognised the need for engaging activities for children who attended services with their grandparents. In 1989, she initiated a playgroup with 40 children, supervised by four volunteers. This playgroup was later registered as Belindia Crèche, receiving funding from the Department of Social Development.
The crèche rapidly expanded, accommodating 135 learners, which necessitated a move to a larger building. As the number of learners continued to grow, the governing body decided to build additional classrooms at the new location to meet the increasing demand.
Today, Belindia Daycare Centre has 245 enrolled learners, with funding from the Department of Education for 230 of them. The centre employs six educators, a Programme Manager, and an administrative official. Additionally, it serves as a practical training site for college students completing their internships.
