Written by Jaco Holtzhausen, Manager of Huis Andrew Murray
Dr. Andrew Murray’s passion for uplifting children is both contagious and inspiring. The first building on Murray Street was completed in 1898, and the initial 36 girls from Union and mission stations in Rhodesia and Nyasaland were sent there for training. In 1966, the Children’s Home moved to its current location on Willem Basson Street, accommodating 72 children. It was expanded in 1977 to house 120 children, in 1986 to accommodate 150 children, and again in 1988 to increase capacity to 155 children. During the 1980s, additional facilities such as a swimming pool, infirmary, and play school were added, serving the 155 children of Huis Andrew Murray to this day.
In 2020, Huis Andrew Murray’s governing body took over the management of Huis Van Heerde in Moorreesburg to prevent its closure, successfully managing both orphanages and jointly serving 225 children.
Our sincere thanks to Badisa for their contributions over the years. Let us pray today and every day, together with our donors, staff, interest groups, and Badisa, for our children. Let’s pray for the children at Badisa and children around the world. Every child is God’s child. May we, as concerned adults, act and pray accordingly. If not, the world will take them and mould them into its image.
“Let us look upon our children; let us love them and train them as children of the covenant and children of the promise. These are the children of God.” (Andrew Murray)
