Magdalena Home’s Isiqalo Programme – Support to vulnerable pregnant girls and women

Magdalena Home’s Isiqalo Programme called New Beginnings supports girls and women who experience a crisis pregnancy and offers them a new beginning, opportunities and hope. Crises are transformed into positive change, and vulnerable pregnant girls and women are being empowered to make informed choices in the best interest of themselves and their babies.

The programme focuses on early intervention in an effort to prevent babies or children from ending up in the statutory system. This outcome is achieved by providing support to the target group and by offering a structured programme in collaboration with professional role players. The programme is based on the philosophy of the important ‘First Thousand Days’.

During the past year, a total of 100 members participated in the programme and found it beneficial. We continuously strive to achieve the following: ‘One responsible parent and healthy child can change a generation.’

This is how clients have experienced the services:
  • ‘I have learned a lot at Magdalena Home, including how to protect my children.’
  • ‘I’ve lost my mother when I was 11 years old and God has put Magdalena Home on my way for me to learn how to be a good mother.’
  • ‘I thank the Lord for the door that he opened for me in a difficult time. I now have knowledge of how to treat others and care for my baby.’
  • ‘I am thankful for what Magdalena Home has done in my life. They gave me a purpose to live, and they gave me the purpose to be a loving mommy to my son. Thank you for making me that brave and bold parent.’
  • ‘The people at Magdalena Home filled a huge void in my life. This programme taught me a lot about God and spiritual growth.’
  • ‘I’ve also learnt to work through my problems one step at a time and to accept my pregnancy even though I am young. I can now be excited about my baby and become a good mother thanks to what I have learnt.’
  • ‘The programme changed my LIFE!’
