Substance Dependency

Substance dependence is usually associated with interpersonal conflict, financial and domestic problems, work-related problems, obstruction of justice, as well as psychological and health problems.

The physiological dependence is treated through detoxification and medical care also forms part of the treatment. The treatment programme also includes other disciplines, such as psychotherapy, social services, dietary aid, occupational therapy, hand and art skills, pastoral care and social activities.

Social workers provide prevention programmes in the community and are responsible for the provision of aftercare services.

Badisa’s service delivery to people with substance dependence includes the following:

  • Prevention: information and awareness programmes.
  • Counselling and referral services.
  • Community-based treatment services in Beaufort West, Wolseley, Koue Bokkeveld, Worcester and Rawsonville, in collaboration with Toevlug Treatment Centre.
  • In-patient treatment for youth and adults.
  • Aftercare and support services.
  • Training of social workers and other role players.

Badisa provides a comprehensive service regarding substance dependency, which includes prevention, early intervention, statutory and aftercare services. Our two treatment centres are:

  • Ramot Treatment Centre, Parow
