Transforming Lives Through Lotto Support: Badisa's Impactful Initiatives in Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Community Outreach

We are thrilled to share the incredible impact made possible by the generous funding received from the National Lotteries Commission in 2022. Thanks to their support, Badisa has been able to implement transformative initiatives addressing substance abuse and making a profound difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

With funding received from the National Lottery Commission in 2022, Badisa was able to:

  • Improve inpatient (5 week) treatment for youth/young adults (13 – 35) and women provided by Toevlug Treatment Centre in Worcester, a programme of Badisa.
  • Expand community-based program for substance use in Still Bay and the West Coast to support young people with substance use disorders.

74 Youth/Young adults were treated between 1 Sept 2022 and 31 August 2023. The treatment programme included:
• Drug testing three times during treatment
• Psychology and social work sessions
• Drumming therapy
• Creativity workshops

The programme focused on rendering services to substance users in order to prevent and treat substance abuse and reduce the harm associated with it within the family, school, workforce and broader society.

Toevlug established an outpatient programme in the Hessegua District to assist the communities with substance use disorders. With this programme in collaboration with local government and other role plyers, Toevlug can share their expertise beyond the treatment centre in Worcester. 43 people received outpatient services in Hessequa municipal area.

Toevlug Treatment Centre trained volunteers in West Coast District to identify, refer and support youth with substance use disorders.

As we celebrate these achievements, we invite continued support and awareness for our ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse. Together, we can create lasting positive change in the lives of individuals and the communities we serve. Once again, a heartfelt thank you to the National Lotteries Commission for being a vital part of this journey towards a healthier, more vibrant future.
