Kylie Valentyn from Tikkel Tokkel Daycare Centre: This is how I make a difference in children’s lives
Kylie from Tikkel Tokkel says: I am a teacher at Tikkel Tokkel, the same day care centre where I received my early-childhood development and where I have learnt to play, act independently and learn from new experiences. I was four years old when my parents enrolled me at the day care centre.
I started my school career at Willemsvallei Primary, now Porterville Primary, in 2001 where I attended school from Grade 1 to Grade 9. I started Grade 10 at Porterville High School but only stayed for three quarters because of medical reasons. I returned in the third quarter of my Grade 11 year. In 2012, I matriculated with a distinction.
I took a gap year as I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. Unfortunately, my first applications were unsuccessful. Initially, I started with the B.Ed Foundational Phase course but terminated my studies and later enrolled for an Educare course at Boland College. I was passionate about my studies and was making my childhood dreams come true. I passed with three distinctions. Late in 2019, I am back as a teacher at Tikkel Tokkel Day care and I can now help to make a difference in the lives of young children.
