Children and Families

Badisa’s services to children and families are in line with the strategies in the National Development Plan 2030 and the policies of the Department of Social Development, which are to:

  • Promote and strengthen healthy family life.
  • Contribute towards all families, vulnerable children and the youth’s sense of safety.
  • Enhance a sense of community, social cohesion and social inclusion.
  • Alleviate poverty.
  • Enhance family members’ opportunities to enter the job market.
  • Provide an infrastructure for child protection.
  • Mitigate risk factors in families through collaboration with internal and external service providers.

Badisa delivers a continuum of services to protect children and strengthen family life. These services include prevention and early intervention services, statutory and re-uniting services.

  1. PREVENTION AND EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES

Early childhood development and partial care programmes are an important  implementation component in  early intervention strategies. Badisa has prioritised the provision of early childhood development (ECD) services as part of its strategy to address poverty and overcome generational disadvantages.

Badisa, in conjunction with Diaconia, established a joined unit for Early Childhood Development to provide services to pre-school children in collaboration with the congregations.  These include:

    • Social work services
    • Magdalena Home: Adoption and Pregnancy
    • ECD Home-based care/development
    • ECD Registered Day Care centres
    • After-school Care Centres
  2. STATUTORY AND RE-UNITING SERVICES

    Child protection services

Badisa is a registered child protection organisation in terms of the Children’s Act. Our social workers conduct risk assessments of children and their families when child abuse, neglect, abandonment or exploitation is reported. When this happens, Badisa will implement statutory processes with children who are in need of care and protection.

    Child and youth care centres

Badisa’s six centres are valuable resources that render services to children and families. These centres offer comprehensive care, therapeutic and development programmes. Children and youths are supported to acquire post-matric qualifications and to live independently.

  3. BADISA CHILDREN FOUNDATION

Badisa established the independent Badisa Children Foundation NPC. The Badisa Children Foundation NPC is a registered non-profit company (2017/528019/08) that has been established as an independent entity for the specific purpose of raising funds for the child protection services rendered by Badisa.

This company is also registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO 203-8020) at the Directorate for Non-profit Organisations at the National Department of Social Development and as a public benefit organisation (PBO 93006 0848) at SARS with Section 18A tax benefits.

The income of the Foundation can solely be distributed to Badisa to carry out the public benefit activities as set out in the Memorandum of Incorporation (MOI). Any changes to the MOI must be approved by the Badisa Board.
